Ingredients
For the Crust
1/2cupwalnuts
1 1/3cupFarmer Direct Foods Whole White Wheat Flour
1/2teaspoonsalt
1/3cupgranulated sugar
1/3cupoil (avocado or canola)
1Tablespoonice cold water
For the Filling
5applespeeled, cored, and sliced
1/3 cupbrown sugar, packed
1Tablespoonlemon juice
1 teaspoonground cinnamon
1teaspoonpure vanilla extract
For the Topping
1Tablespoongranulated sugar
2 Tablespoonssalted butter, cut into small cubes
2Tablespoonsapricot preserves, melted
Instructions
Crust
In a food processor, pulse the walnuts until finely ground. Add the flour, salt, and sugar, and pulse a few times to combine. With the processor running, drizzle in 1/3 cup of oil or melted butter. Sprinkle water over the mixture and pulse a few more times until just combined. Press the crust mixture evenly into the bottom of an 11-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Place pan into the freezer while you prepare the filling.
Filling
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, toss the apples with the brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until the apples are fully coated.
Arrange apples over crust in an even layer. Sprinkle the apples with granulated sugar and dot top with butter cubes. Bake until crust is golden and apples are tender, about 1 hour.
Brush the apples with melted apricot preserves and let cool slightly. Slice and serve warm with cream or ice cream.
